HISTORY OF THE BCCA - The Broyhill Crest Citizens Association was founded in 1952 with John J. Ahern largely responsible for its formation and initial success. In the first year, all of the residents of the then-completed portion of the development (24 families) were members of the Association. The first meeting was held in the Pioneer Grange Hall. It was at this meeting that the original constitution of the BCCA was drafted. In April of 2009, the Constitution was updated by vote of the members at the Spring Meeting. The name of the BCCA was changed to the Broyhill Crest Community Association. This name highlights the main goal of our organization tobuild a sense of community in our diverse neighborhood.

SPONSORSHIP OF LOCAL ACTIVITIES - The BCCA, in its program of making our community a better place in which to live, sponsored and assisted various youth organizations, including Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Brownies, and Cub Scouts. The community social activities, as we now know them, were started during the 1955-56 period. Annual Christmas (Santa Visits), Easter (Egg Hunt) and Fourth of July (Youth Parade) festivities, organized for the children, have become highlights of each year.

MONITORING OF LOCAL GOVERNMENT PLANS AND POLICIES - Some of the services which the Association performs include the continuous monitoring and appraisal of Fairfax County plans and policies, especially in the areas of public safety and zoning enforcement. The BCCA actively lobbies for our interests with our local government officials both elected and appointed.

RELATIONSHIP WITH OTHER CIVIC ORGANIZATIONS - In order to be more effective in County matters bearing on our community, the BCCA joined in the Fairfax County Federation in May 1953; and at present, with over 1150 families, is one of the largest associations in the County Federation.

BCCA MEETINGS - in the early period of its history when the community was newly built, the Association conducted its business at regular monthly meetings. In more recent years, apart from the annual election of officers in the Spring, general meetings are now held only for special purposes as considered necessary by the Executive Committee or by petition to the President by at least 20 (family) members of the Association. The BCCA Board meets (except for July and August) on the third Tuesday of each month at the Woodburn Elementary School. All BCCA members are welcome to attend.

THE NEWSLETTER - The BCCA Newsletter published by the Board is the primary means of communication with the members of the Association. This publication began as a mimeograph bulletin in the mid-60’s and was hand delivered. Today the newsletter is printed and mailed or e-mailed to over 1150 homes.
